Oley Citizen Watch Dogs Reduce the Budget

The early involvement of the concerned citizens had a profound effect on the spending requests of the district.

At the March 21,2006 Budget and Finance Meeting, the administration had to cut a significant amount from their 2006 spending proposal presented at the February 27,2006 meeting.

They originally wanted to increase spending by $2,797,901, but the school superintendent cut the request to approximately to $2,416,674 or a reduction of $381,227.

The reason the spending increase number in this article is different from that in the article,"The Numbers Don't Match" is that Dr. Moser changed format and content of the budget presentation.

He never fully addressed the disposition of $2,109,880 "Known Increases" expenses revealed at the February 27,2006 meeting

This reduction would never have happened had the community not voiced their concerns to the board. The meetings packed with overtaxed property owners affect the budget process.

The administration still needs to cut far more from their wish list.

The March 21 budget meeting was the epitome of condescension to the tax payers. The "acting" business manager spoke down to us like we were a bunch of elementary students. It's hard to keep track of how many business managers OVSD has gone through in the last half dozen years which, in itself, speaks volumes.

I guess when you've lived in a failing academic world most of your life, you don't understand that most of the working stiffs actually are more intelligent that the edurats. My dad used to say" Don't ever confuse intelligence with higher education. There's often no correlation whatsoever." This administration and board is living proof that my dad was, indeed, a sage.

Thank goodness people are finally speaking up about taxes.

You are made to feel guilty about saying anything.

What actually happened to the original budget presentation was that it got cut because the school board directed the administration to pare it down. This happens every year whether a few constituents complain or not, and for a handful of chronic insulters to take credit for it is ridiculous. One of you complained that you are frequently ignored. That is usually because you won't listen when your "facts",which are misinterpreted by you, or your conclusions, which don't follow your facts, are disagreed with. It also happens when what you say just doesn't make sense; or when you conclude you haven't been answered, when you don't like the answer- meaning it doesn't coincide with your prejudged conclusion. As for the business manager speaking down to you, you must be referring to his 8 repititions of a fairly simple explanation of an accusation raised by your fearless leader about the board double billing "taxpayers" (including themselved of course)for teacher payments made in the summer. Fearless leader never did get it. This happens with unsurprising regularity but never keeps him from repeating disproved claims or accusations.

'repetitions' is the correct spelling- sorry.
